Case Study: Empowering a Creative Agency Through Psychosocial Risk Assessment

Client: Social Media Agency

Industry: Marketing & Creative Services
Team Size: 10–15 employees
Location: Australia
Service Delivered: Psychosocial Risk Assessment + Staff Interviews + Strategy Report

The Challenge

A Brisbane based social media agency is a vibrant, fast-paced creative agency led by a passionate founder. As the team scaled quickly, signs of stress and communication challenges began to surface. While the culture was largely positive, the CEO wanted to proactively support staff wellbeing and prevent burnout.

There was no formal system in place to identify psychosocial risks, and the growing demands on the team created uncertainty around roles, processes, and support.

The Approach

We applied the WHSQ Psychosocial Risk Assessment Tool, combining it with individual team interviews to gain deep insight into the lived experiences of staff. Our 3-step process included:

1. Structured Risk Assessment: Using the WHSQ tool to identify key psychosocial hazard areas

2. Team Interviews: Confidential interviews with team members to surface themes not always captured in surveys.

3. Strategic Report & Action Plan: A clear, compassionate summary with both short- and long-term recommendations.

What We Found

While the team valued flexibility and collaboration, five core themes emerged:

  • Lack of role clarity: Ambiguity around responsibilities, onboarding, and expectations.

  • Inconsistent support systems: Limited access to tech/tools and knowledge gaps.

  • Leadership communication gaps: Desire for more regular updates and clearer direction.

  • Pressure points during peak periods: Rising stress and lack of bandwidth.

  • Underdeveloped procedures: A need for documented processes and checklists.

Quick Wins Implemented

To show visible commitment and boost staff morale, Tina took immediate action on three targeted changes.

1. Weekly Team Check-Ins to align priorities and celebrate wins.

2.”Who to Ask for What” Guide to reduce confusion and increase confidence.

3. Process Documentation Kick-Off, starting with one key task and building momentum.

The Results

In just weeks, the team reported more clarity and confidence. The CEO shared that the process gave her “a clear, doable path forward” and took the weight off her shoulders by turning feedback into action.

Staff appreciated being heard, and the quick wins created a visible shift in culture, reducing stress and improving communication.

Why It Worked

  • A strengths-based, non-judgemental approach kept staff and leadership engaged.

  • Practical, realistic actions empowered the CEO without overwhelming her.

  • We framed risk as opportunity, building a stronger, more sustainable business culture.
